BLOG LIKE A ROCK STAR... GOOD WILL EDITORIALISM or FREE PUBLICITY

If you are reading this, it's probably because the headline caught your curious eye.  As you read on, you are proving to yourself why blogging is such a successful way to promote yourself through your beliefs.  If done right, blogging can be a great promotional vehicle by providing insight on your favored topics.

VIRAL POPULARITY
By now, the credibility-making power of the blog outweighs the impact of any local advertising or publicity campaign.  You are generating true recognition for your expertise on a viral level by purely being honest and helpful.  Writing a socially-useful blog can stir tidal waves of popular votes leading to new found friends, allies, partners, fans, followers - essentially people who appreciate what you have to offer.  Where SHARING good content becomes a VIRAL power (passed around like a virus), one of your many rewards for good writing comes in the form of public recognition and high ranking or HITS.

THE SPIRIT OF SHARING
The original spirit of blogging comes from the writer whose passion is in sharing free public education and awareness to a global community that is hungry for genuine knowledge from real people.  It is a modern communication art empowering the common person as a true source of inspiration, education or general information.

Blogging is driven by all the current and free publishing avenues of our digital age. Creating a blog following is like having your personal congregation- and if used correctly, can grow into a digital institution with great educational possibilities.

 TYPES OF BLOGS:
- Instructional How-to's : highly popular for quick referencing researcher
- Rants: editorial complaints about product, situation, event etc
- Product Reviews: great way to market or deflate anything
- Expert Advice: fill the internet with guidance from professionals like you
- The Journal (diary): personal entries and narratives
- The Plugger (product exposure)- promote anything by writing praise
- "Topicalities" -scientific text-style writing usually by freelancers

THE BLOG BUSINESS
Back in the day- when Blogs first came out, PR people took to the idea that this was the newest trend in advancing your public impression by showing how well you know your business-- by writing about it. Social media blog writers were hired to write for you and post "seo driven articles" where certain words are positioned in the article and backlinks were strategically placed to optimize your website.

On a reputation-building level, Blogging is quite similar to publishing a book where having a successful blog is about winning followers and getting readers.  Today's impatient, fast-paced non-committal consumer gladly clicks "LIKE" on a short blog without much discernment.  And why not? It takes little or no effort to "like" anything on a screen short of a fun title, a cool topic and an eye-catching stock photo insert vs. the major time-commitment of a 300-pg printed book.  That simple thumbs up or "subscribe" or "follow me" translates to social media popularity, web ranking, global recognition and possible relationships (especially when you comment on their blog).

THE VLOG
With the plummeting prices of video equipment, YouTube producers are coming out of the woodwork in the millions. As YouTube opened free publishing, free hosting and (practically) zero restrictions as far as content, quality and size.  For more information on VLOGGING and YouTube productions, check out:

GREAT MAILER IDEA: SAVE THE DATE

To increase your value in the business community, you must practice the art of giving resources that people could use.  In the case of email sends, a popular constant send-away to your business leads are "SAVE THE DATE" mailers.

Save the Date takes a segment of EVENT MARKETING without actually getting involved in managing parties, business seminars, expos and other relevant special events that are going on around you.  Sending out a "Save the Date" promotes you as someone IN-THE-KNOW.

To be a successful networker, you must enact a public responsibility to be a helpful resource.  By simply putting together a list of events that may interest you, you are saying "this could be good for you!"  Meanwhile, the recycled information about events helps the venues that you are referring while making you the HERO of the day to your friends.  This maintains your public presence with your list without being a pest.  This also makes you stay current with people in correspondence.

To produce a Save-the-Date mailer is quite simple.  With a little bit of research, you can take pre-existing information and recycle them into a neat, one-page format to bring people to useful business events that they may (or may not) want to attend.  You as a publisher create the types of events to recommend purely based on what you think is a good event. Sharing the events info into a mini calendar announcement is useful info for many - and they'll THANK YOU FOR IT!

BENEFITS: WINNING VISIBILITY FOR YOU, THE SPONSOR
The term "eye time" comes from the world of advertising.  Like ads in the subway walls or banners in a baseball field, sending out a SAVE THE DAY mailer buys you an opportunity to catch people's eye.  This becomes an opportunity to post BANNER ADVERTISING of your business or practice. Save the Day mailers are friendly enough email that people will want to open and are truly helpful.  Because you have just performed a PUBLIC SERVICE by passing around good events for people to attend, you have also just bought yourself the right to self promote.  This makes you the SPONSOR.

ANATOMY OF A MAILER:
1) Have a Strong SUBJECT LINE.  It should be strategic and inviting to make people want to open it. A poorly written subject line ends up in junk box and can result in people opting-out or unsubscribing.

2) BRAND your mailer: important when they pass it around- and it is a self-promo rule.

3) Clean, concise CONTENT: Must be straightforward, not too wordy and helpful.

4) YOUR BANNER AD: be tasteful when inserting this- not too big and not imposing.
